Immature Stages of Rhopalosomatidae

Detailed information on immature stages of Rhopalosomatidae (= Rhopalosomidae) is being acquired.  However, Clausen (1940) noted that the mature larva of Rhopalosoma poeyi Cress. Is very robust, measuring only 2X as long as wide. The successive cast skins remain as a pad beneath the body.  There are thought to be at least 5 larval instars.  Each instar seems to have 10 pairs of spiracles, the exact position of which is not known.
